This bag is food for soil bacteria.

The planet is at risk of being submerged by plastic. At Black Baza, over the years, we have taken hundreds of tiny actions to conserve biodiversity on coffee farms. We feel it would be a total waste of our collective efforts if our biodiversity-friendly coffee ends up in bags which in turn suffocate biodiversity in landfills or in the oceans.

Our effort therefore, is to use the best available packaging technology to ensure our coffee bags leave behind no footprints.

The inner bag in which you receive your coffee, looks like conventional plastic but is far from it. These bags are made from polyethylene (a polymer commonly used to make regular plastics), compounded with a naturally-derived enzyme that catalyses the breakdown of the carbon in the polyethylene by soil bacteria over time.

This bag is fully consumed by soil bacteria over a period of two to three years. The surrounding soil pH is seen to not be significantly impacted in the process.

It is crucial that our coffee bags are zero waste.

This is also why we do not use a plastic valve. We think some brewing refinements and a little compassion for the planet should sufficiently offset the minor loss of freshness.

Sorry, but not sorry.
