Need a break? Our Chonky Ant Scoop lets you skip one of the more boring bits of your daily coffee routine without giving up your perfectly brewed cup of coffee.

This scoop is everything we want coffee culture to be — quirky, fuss-free and decently precise. Handmade in Auroville, Tamil Nadu, from locally sourced Acacia auriculiformis, or Earleaf Acacia, it holds a wholesome 18g of whole bean or ground coffee.

Whether you’re brewing with an AeroPress, steel filter, moka pot, French press or pour-over, 18g makes a generous, satisfying cup — especially when you’ve got a long day on the road ahead.

It’s unbreakable, toxin-free, versatile and adorable. And we can honestly say it’s changed our morning brewing ritual, and, by extension, our daily lives!

These are handmade, so each scoop is slightly different.

How to Use

Use the Chonky Ant Scoop to measure out 18g of whole bean or ground coffee. No weighing scale required — just scoop, brew and get on with your day.

It works across brewing methods, so whether you’re making an AeroPress, steel filter, moka pot, French press or pour-over, 18g is a good place to start. If you’re using an AeroPress, try the Wanderoo, Potter Wasp, Otter or Kaati, and follow your usual recipe from there.

CARE Wipe it clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth after use. Avoid soaking it in water or using harsh detergents, and let it dry completely before storing.

Meet the Maker

COLLABORATION This scoop was made in collaboration with the incredible Dirk from Worktree Studio, who is a master craftsman based in Auroville. It is made with Acacia auriculiformis, most commonly known as Earleaf Acacia or Ear-pod Wattle due to its curved, leathery seed pods.

ART The strutting ant on the scoop is by Rajiv Eipe, an illustrator and animator known for his picture books, comics and short films. He also designed our Ant Loop brass filters. We couldn’t think of a more fitting co-conspirator for brewing gear that celebrates ants, slow coffee, and the joy of noticing the little things.

How much coffee does the scoop hold? -

The scoop holds roughly 16–18 grams of coffee, depending on the grind size. For best results, we recommend weighing your dose once and using that as a reference.

Can I use this as a replacement for a weighing scale? -

It works well as a quick, reliable measure when you don’t have a scale on hand, especially while travelling.

How do I care for the wooden scoop? -

Wipe it clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth after use. Avoid soaking it in water or using harsh detergents, and let it dry completely before storing.

What is the scoop made of, and will the artwork last? -

The scoop is made from natural wood and features our signature ant artwork. With regular use, the wood may develop a gentle patina over time. To keep the artwork looking its best, avoid prolonged exposure to water and harsh scrubbing.

Why an ant? -

Ants are small, but play an outsized role in forest ecosystems — dispersing seeds, improving soil, and keeping systems in balance. Much like the landscapes our coffee comes from, they remind us that small things matter.
